Organ cleaning 2014

Organ cleaning, January to February 2014

The organ at Thorney Abbey is currently undergoing cleaning.

Our organ has 1,588 pipes, each with its own voice. They range in size from 2 inches to 16 feet in length! Some are made of metal and some of wood. Some have wooden stoppers at the ends and some have reeds and brass ends. They will all be cleaned and retuned. What a task!

The smaller pipes will be removed and taken to the workshop for attention. The larger ones will be serviced on site. At this moment one keyboard has been removed to enable access to what is behind.

If you would like to hear the organ played, come to any 11am Sunday service from the end of February!
